Your landscaping has to deal with the heat without the climate control that a dwelling can provide. Here are some ideas to help your plants and other elements on your grounds endure.
- For plants that need water…give it to them in the coolest part of the day…sometime just before sunup is good.
- Design and implement landscaping that doesn’t need watering
- Start with plants for which the heat and limited rainfall of a Steppe climate is adequate.
- Create “non-botanic” features that absorb less heat (light colors for example)
- Do what is necessary to prevent invasive or noxious species from getting established
- Removal
- Installing “weed blocker” or other obstacles
- Build coverings for areas that will particularly benefit from shade
Remember that you can keep cool yourself if you “move to higher (and cooler) ground” once in a while by heading to the higher elevations within the mountains.
Enjoy your summer!

The heat is definitely to be respected! Thanks for these reminders,
